Your First Visit: What to Expect

We believe in a holistic approach to dentistry. Your initial appointment is designed to gather a complete understanding of your health and create a personalized care plan in a comfortable environment.

Here is a step-by-step guide to your first appointment:

Step 1: A Complete Dental and Medical History

Dr. Jarrod and Dr. Thomas have extensive training on the correlation between good oral health and your overall well-being. Expect to answer many medical history questions as they can expose areas of concern regarding systemic health conditions that relate to oral health.

Step 2: X-Rays & Digital Imaging

The eyeSMILE Dental team will take necessary X-rays to look in between the teeth in order to find decay which we cannot visibly see.

  • A panoramic X-ray may also be taken to evaluate the development and positioning of permanent and wisdom teeth, assess the jaw joint, evaluate your sinuses, and note any cysts or abnormalities.

Step 3: Comprehensive Exam & Screening

  • Dr. Jarrod or Dr. Thomas and a hygienist will conduct a thorough exam in which they will:
  • Evaluate each tooth for existing conditions.
  • Check the health of the gum tissue (periodontal screening).
  • Perform an oral cancer screening.
  • Provide you with a personalized risk assessment printout to take home.

Step 4: Prophy (Cleaning) & Prevention

  • The hygienist will gently remove plaque and buildup from above and below your gum tissue while educating you about your oral health to keep your smile looking its best.
  • Your teeth will be polished and flossed.
  • Fluoride varnish can also be applied to the patient’s teeth for sensitivity and cavity prevention.
